Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.

It was the first summer after the end of Prohibition. For six weeks, July through August, many of the nation's wealthiest families arrived in Newport, the City by the Sea, where lavish house parties and yachting events filled the calendar, complementing the tennis tournaments, the polo match, and the horse show that closed the season.

Elizabeth Lehr, wife of socialite Harry Lehr, dubbed Newport “the playground of the great ones of the earth from which all intruders were ruthlessly excluded.” Families of railroad, mining and steel fortunes, the Vanderbilts, Firestones, Astors, entertained in their “summer cottages,” where butlers dressed in tuxedos served cocktails and Champagne in opulent, perfectly-proportioned coupes. The multi-purpose glass emerged from Newport to become a vintage classic, both aesthetically pleasing and functional, an enchanting vessel for sipping and toasting.

Offered is a Gift Box Set of 2 Newport “Social Season” Cocktail Coupe Glasses, for keeping or giving.
